A writer, Ben Mears,(David Soul) comes back his home town of 'Salem's Lot. Memories so vivid and pungent are there that often he can't help but remember the haunting inside of the infamous Marsten House on the hill. As a child he had gone inside and imagined the hanging corpse of the owner of the house, a gangster.
But that is not all that the town has, the insatiable gossip machine of the women folk and vices of a catholic priest, and the desires of a young woman, Susan, who falls for Ben.
Then the antique store opens. Straker, the partner of the elusive owner, Barlow, comes to the Lot. But there's something odd about him, an indescribable sort of unease settles over most of those who meet him. And where is his partner? Barlow? When will he come?
Soon the townsfolk are wishing he hadn't come. For Barlow is a vampire, an old and extroadinarily clever one at that. He's here to turn every one into what he is and he'll surely succeed.
It's up to Ben to face him and the Marsten House. The memories. With the help of a twelve year old boy named, Mark, whose brother was taken by Barlow and finally the holy assistance of a boozing Catholic priest, whose losing his faith.
But will they survive? Will Ben be able to face this evil horror who comes in many forms and stalks the night. Or will he crumble? And what of Mark and the priest? Will they also bare the kiss of the monster? The sharp agony of his fangs?
Can Salom's Lot survive?
And will anyone even care if this out of the way place even does?
