Koop is an electronic jazz duo from Sweden. The band, which consists of Magnus Zingmark and Oscar Simonsson, has made three albums and been involved with numerous remix projects, including a remix for Astrud Gilberto's "Here's That Rainy Day" for the Verve Remixed project.

When listening to Koop's music it's easy to believe that it's played by a small orchestra, but in fact the music is based on samples. Thousands of small clips (drums, strings, horn sections and choirs) from records are pain-stakingly puzzled together to create new songs. This creates the distinctive surreal Koop sound.

The vocals are not sampled. Many singers have blessed the Koop albums with their talent. On the album Koop Islands the singers are : Yukimi Nagano, Ane Brun, Hilde Louise Asbjornsen, Rob Gallagher and Mikael Sundin. Some fine musicians have also participated on the album playing solos, percussion and bass. Those are : Mattias Ståhl, Magnus Lindgren, Karl Frid, Nils Berg, Martin Höper, Ola Bothzén, Dan Berglund and Mats Lindfors.

When playing live, Koop's main mission is to make people move their feet. The band transforms into a 7-9 piece swing orchestra including one or two singers. The line-up varies from time to time so if you are looking for the personnel on a specific concert please don't hesitate to drop a message. Koop themselves play piano/accordion (Oscar), sampler (Magnus) and wear dresses.

Ascoltandoli adesso a distanza di quattro anni hanno fugato ogni dubbio, non è elettronica mista a jazz, ma jazz con un tocco di elettronica. I Koop ovvero Magnus Zingmark e Oscar Simonsson svedesi di Uppsala e residenti a Stoccolma hanno mantenuto grossomodo lo stesso registro di “Waltz for Koop”, ma riuscendo a creare un sound che risale al passato fino a risalire allo swing degli anni ’30.
Le voci sono senz’altro la ciliegina sulla torta, dettano il ritmo e danno “luce e colore” al suono, particolarmente interessante è il binomio musica e voce di Yukimi Nagano presente in “Come to me” di cui peraltro consiglio la visione del video.
Quest’ultima la ritroviamo anche in altri brani dell’album, ma le voci sono anche di altri amici dei Koop come Mikael Sundin e l’ex Galliano, Rob Gallagher (aka Earl Ginger), mentre nella traccia d’apertura Ane Brun fa il suo esordio nella scena jazz elettronica. “Koop Island” è stato registrato interamente nel loro studio svedese, ed ha tutte le carte in regola per essere un successo e far superare il cosiddetto esame del secondo album ai Koop, che a distanza di quattro anni si sono ripresentati con un suono più ricercato, esotico, che si esprime con le marimba e sembra quasi essere la colonna sonora di un viaggio verso mari caldi e lontani
