Joshua Lazarus is een \'scoper\', een telepaat die de gedachten van mensen kan lezen. Er zijn slechts een handjevol scopers in de wereld. Met de juiste training kan een scoper leren om de stemmen te controleren. Maar het geschenk is dodelijk, een scoper wordt krankzinnig op de leeftijd van 29 jaar. Joshua is 28. Joshua en zijn mentor werken met de regering in ruil voor een genezing. Op een missie ontmoet Joshua de ongetrainde scoper Anna. Door hun unieke gave openen ze hun gedachten aan elkaar en worden ze al snel verliefd. Maar de regering staat dit niet toe en ze plannen een verdwijning om samen een nieuw leven te beginnen. Ze worden echter al snel ontdekt en uit elkaar getrokken. Met de hulp van hun jeugdvriend wordt Joshua gedwongen om de waarheid de ontdekken over zijn gaven en die van de anderen.

But the gift is deadly, a scoper is insane at the age of 29 years. Joshua is 28. Joshua and his mentor work with the government in exchange for a cure. On a mission meets Joshua untrained scoper Anna. Because of their unique ability to open their minds to each other and they soon fell in love. But the government does not allow a disappearance and plan together to start a new life. However, they are quickly discovered and pulled apart. With the help of childhood friend Josh is forced to discover the truth about his gifts and those of others.
