Description:
Fame can be brutal. Just watch Lily Allens face as she
sits unseen by the focus group of young women as they
neatly tear up her dream of becoming a fashion retailer.
The women, brought together by Mary Portas in a neat bit
of Channel 4 cross-promoting, dont think much of Lilys
plan to open a London shop renting out vintage clothes
at what they think are absurdly high prices. And once they
hear that shes behind the enterprise, the gloves come
off. Lily Allen, sitting behind a two-way mirror, walks out.
Its hard not to feel some sympathy; Allen, who says she
has turned her back on her singing career, comes across
as hugely likeable, with a big, belting laugh. But she and
her sister/business partner Sarah are hopelessly naive
about money. Sarah, nicknamed Fairy and known by
everyone as a flake, is a week late returning from a
buying trip to LA because her rental car runs out of petrol
on the way to catch her flight home.
