HQ very rare promo music video with untouched LPCM AC3 6ch audio from the promo DVD. Dont Let Go the Coat is a song from Face Dances, the ninth album by the English rock band the Who. It was originally released in 1981 in the US on Warner Bros. Records and on Polydor Records in the UK. It was the first full new album the Who made with drummer Kenney Jones as a replacement for Keith Moon, and their first for Warner Bros.
Although some jeered at the album, Roger Daltrey went on record saying he liked this album in a 1994 interview. Some critics, notably in the Boston Globe in a review in April 1981, said it was the Whos best album since 1973s Quadrophenia.
The album peaked at number 4 on the Billboard album charts (the chart topper was Styxs Paradise Theatre) and number 2 on the British album charts.
The album cover features paintings of the members by many British painters, who were commissioned by Peter Blake, who had previously designed the cover of The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Artists include Tom Phillips, Richard Hamilton, Allen Jones, David Hockney, Clive Barker, R. B. Kitaj, Howard Hodgkin, Patrick Caulfield, and Peter Blake himself.
Dont Let Go the Coat was released in the U.K. as the second single from the album backed with You on May 5, 1981. It reached #47. In the U.S. the single hit the Billboard charts on June 27, 1981 peaking at #84 (#77 in Cash Box). This song also had this video shot in an identical style to the one for You Better You Bet and Another Tricky Day. Dont Let Go The Coat was performed live only during the 1981 U.K./European tour.

I was thinking about all the things you cling onto, and that the most important thing for me at that particular time was to cling to some semblance of a spiritual equipoise. The verses of the song talk about things might change and things might explode, but just as long as you hang onto that thread, that apron string of a real affection and love for the people around you, and for whatever else youre into, God, whatever it is...Mum and Dad!
