De Silver Surfer is een fictieve superheld uit de strips van Marvel Comics. Hij werd bedacht door Stan Lee en Jack Kirby, en verscheen voor het eerst in The Fantastic Four #48 (maart 1966). Voor een in twee delen verschenen verhaal dat door Jean Giraud (Moebius) werd getekend kregen Lee en Giraud in 1989 de Eisner-prijs.

De Surfer was vroeger Norrin Radd, een jonge astronoom van de planeet Zenn-La. Hij bood de god-achtige Galactus zijn diensten aan om zijn planeet te redden van Galactus onstilbare honger. Galactus gaf hem enorme kosmische krachten (in de Engelstalige strips bekend als de Power Cosmic), een zilveren uiterlijk en een surfplankachtig vervoermiddel. Hij kreeg de opdracht nieuwe planeten voor Galactus uit te zoeken.

In het inmiddels klassieke verhaal \"The Coming of Galactus\" uit Fantastic Four #48-50 (1966) komt de Silver Surfer op Aarde en ontmoet de Fantastic Four. Hij verloochent Galactus, die hem voor straf naar de aarde verbant.

De Silver Surfer is een van Marvel Comics’ meest bekende karakters. Naast de strips deed hij ook mee in zijn eigen animatieserie, en had gastoptredens in de animatieseries van de Fantastic Four. Ook speelt hij een rol in de tweede Fantastic Four film in 2007.

When the planet of Zenn-La comes under attack by Galactus, a cosmic entity obsessed with satisfying his undying hunger by consuming planets abundant with life, a man known as Norrin Radd bargains to stop him. He offers to help find planets fit for consumption yet not containing life.

Galactus accepts the offer and empowers him with the power cosmic, as well as removing the memories of his humanity, thus creating the Silver Surfer. The Surfer serves as the faithful servant to Galactus until a confrontation with the evil Thanos awakens his memories of his home planet and his love Shalla Bal.

After defending Earth from Galactus, the Surfer is allowed to
go out on his own only to discover that an angry Galactus has moved Zenn-La into an unknown area of space. Now facing isolation, hatred from those whose planets he helped destroy, and an ever-present threat from Galactus, the Silver Surfer roams through space seeking out his home and helping those he meets along the way.

This DVD set features all 13 episodes of the animated television series The Silver Surfer.

Based on the comics written by Stan Lee The Silver Surfer follows the trials and tribulations of Norrin Radd.

The Silver Surfer entered the world of comics in March 1966, in Fantastic Four #48, as an unplanned addition to a story about Galactus and the Fantastic Four. Both Stan Lee and Jack Kirby enjoyed the character so much that he featured him in a solo title, The Silver Surfer, in 1968 with him going on to become one of the most well-loved of all the Marvel characters. In 1998, the Surfer starred in a solo animated series - which is available now for the first time ever on DVD!

In his animated series the Silver Surfer\'s origins were laid out alongside encounters with many characters from Marvel\'s \"cosmic\" stable, including The Fantastic Four, Thanos, The Watcher, Ego the Living Planet, Mentor, Drax the Destroyer, Pip the Troll, Nebula, as well as the Kree and Skrull empires.
