Matthew Amroliwala and Jane Hill present a BBC News 24 Special about the former Beatle George Harrison who died earlier that day.



Nov. 30, 2001 -- George Harrison, the "quiet Beatle" often thought of as the soul of the Fab Four, died Thursday of cancer. He was 58.



Harrison died at a friend's home in Los Angeles, his wife Olivia and son Dhani, 24, at his side. "He left the world as he lived in it, conscious of God, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by family and friends," the family said in a statement.



Tributes, interviews and contributions throughot the show included Paul McCartney, Michael Palin, Bob Geldof, Bob Harris, Peter Sissons and Tom Jones.



N.B.15 seconds at the end of the programme are cut because the tape spooled back when the VHS recorder was switched off. The Paul McCartney intervew was broadcast in complete earlier in the show.
