A young officer of the Kingdom is sent to investigate the estate of Baron Baroness Carini occupied by a young and beautiful, whose fate seems to retrace that of another lady died mysteriously in the same places three centuries earlier. Sicilia 1812, la prima costituzione liberale sta per mettere fine ai privilegi dei grandi feudatari. Un giovane funzionario del Regno viene inviato a indagare sul feudo del Barone di Carini dove vive una Baronessa giovane e bella, il cui destino sembra ripercorrere quello di un'altra nobildonna morte misteriosamente in quegli stessi luoghi tre secoli prima. Le indagini affondano nel mistero, lo sceneggiato procede come un treno nei territori del suspense e del giallo all'italiana. Grande cast di comprimari: da Paolo Stoppa a Vittorio Mezzogiorno a una giovane Enrica Bonaccorti. Alla voce di Gigi Proietti è affidata la ballata che ispira tutta la storia.
