Release Notes:
With so many present and past members of Teenage Fanclub involved in this
recording, comparisons are inevitable. Paul Quinn the mainstay of P5 drummed in
TF, Norman Blake plays some guitar and Raymond McGinley helped out with the
engineering. No surprises then that the same touchstones are touched - Big Star,
the Byrds and TF themselves for they have become as much as an influence as the
bands that influenced them. So this is full of bright guitar based music, with
an emphasis on melodies and harmonies. Not that they are always in a rush to
layer these in an attempt to produce the musical equivalent of heroin. ‘Same Old

The nub of this review, and I suspect of any review of this P5 release, is the
proximity to TF - close proximity in sound, personality, style, personnel,
everything. Let that not deflect from listening closely because this has its own
rewards. All ten tracks through to the excellent ‘Trains’ are superbly crafted
and are honey for the ears. The only thing that holds them back from a higher
mark is that they’re not taking any risks. There’s little experimentation which
isn’t necessarily a problem - if you are looking for well crafted intelligent
pop music that has enough sharp hooks to bear repetition, then this really
