Computer Active-- a fortnightly computer magazine published by Incisive Media in the UK. It was originally published by VNU Business Publications, which was bought by Incisive Media in 2007. Its sister magazines are Personal Computer World and The Ultimate Guide series. Its first issue was in February 1998.
Based on fortnightly sales, confirmed by the UK's Audit Bureau of Circulation, this is the UK's best-selling computer magazine, where 80% of the magazine's readers are male. And a downloadable version of the magazine is provided by Zinio.
The magazine is split into three main sections:
1. How To - includes a pull-out 'Workshops' section, a question-and-answer section in which staff provide answers to readers' computer problems and productivity features on a broad range of home computing topics.
2. Tried & Tested - reviews of consumer hardware and software by the magazine's staff and various freelance journalists.
3. Interactive - news, consumer rights advice, recommended freeware and shareware downloads and reader-generated material such as computer tips and letters.
The magazine was redesigned to celebrate its tenth anniversary, with the new look launched in February 2008. And it is officially endorsed by the Plain English Campaign and displays that organization's 'crystal mark' logo on its contents page. At the side of many articles is a glossary of jargon used in the text, to help less experienced readers understand some of the terminology.
