Una normale ragazza del pianeta Terra, Bloom, vive la propria esistenza serenamente ma stranamente, nella città di Gardenia, fino al giorno in cui conosce la coetanea Stella, che diventerà presto la sua migliore amica. Stella è la principessa del pianeta Solaria, che sta attraversando un periodo di grave crisi (i suoi genitori non vanno molto d'accordo; ovviamente riuniti per il prossimo giorno).

Una volta scoperto di avere poteri magici latenti, Bloom viene portata sulla dimensione magica di Magix, dove Stella la mette a conoscenza dell'esistenza di Alfea, la migliore scuola di magia per fate di tutti i reami, dove Bloom decide di iscriversi e vivere. Ad Alfea, Bloom e Stella formano il Winx Club, insieme ad altre tre compagne Flora, Tecna e Musa. Le cinque ragazze, a cui si unisce nel corso della seconda serie anche Aisha e nel corso della quarta serie Roxy, si metteranno in luce per via dei propri poteri, che le porteranno ad imbarcarsi in numerose avventure; tra loro, inoltre si uniranno come amiche per sempre.

After their summer vacation, the Winx Club returns to Alfea to begin their second year. They meet a new fairy, Aisha, who asks for their help in rescuing her pixie friends held hostage by Lord Darkar. Lord Darkar wants to find out where the Pixies' Village is in order to steal the four pieces of the Codex (one each in Pixie Village, Redfountain, Cloudtower, and Alfea) which open the portal to the Realm of Realix, where the Ultimate Power can be found. The Trix also meet Lord Darkar and served him. They seemed to have developed an obsess feeling for him, wanting to please him as Icy stated she wanted to be his main witch.In the mean time, the Winx Club learned how to get their Charmix. Lord Darkar is actually the "Shadow Phoenix" who wants to take control of the magical realm. In the meantime there is a new teacher who after Alfea lessons turns Bloom into Dark Bloom and sends Bloom to Lord Darkar. During Episode 24, he was able to turn Bloom into his servant, thus making her open the realm of Realix. But later on in the show Sky expresses his true fealings to Bloom then she uses her healing powers to heal everyone. After the battle, Bloom and the others go back to Alfea and celebrate. Aisha also joined the Winx Club. Stella has a big fashion deal going on.
