"Live from Nowhere in Particular" is a great capturing of Joe's, and his stellar band's, current live shows. His performances are constantly evolving not just with new songs but also new arrangements of studio tracks and songs he's done live for years, and on this collection, in particular acoustic versions of songs he originally did electrically. If you are a long time fan and you see him live you very well might not get anything off his first three albums at a current show. Many "chestnuts" such as "I Know Where I Belong", "Blues Deluxe and "Takin' the Hit", however, are on previous live collections such as "A New Day Yesterday-Live" recorded in 2001 or the DVD "Live at the Rockpalast" from 2005 or even the EP from Shepherd's Bush released earlier this year. One of the amazing things you'll notice if you go to these older performances is his constant tweaking of numbers. I was very glad that he included "New Day" into the Yes medley as a show closer as he rarely plays either live anymore but they absolutely rock. Joe's song selection of both covers and his own material is part of his charm as he bounces from the Jeff Beckish "Django" into the beautiful ballad "Mountain Time", any of his slow blues like "Askin' around for You or "Heartaches", rockers like "Just got Paid",and acoustic numbers keeping the dynamics of singing and playing not only with different tempo and types of songs but within the songs themselves. There's nothing like being at a live show and having him bring down the playing 'til you could hear a pin drop then bringing the whole crowd up to a roar, as the music does likewise, when he comes out of it. Joe, ultimately, is a very talented, dedicated showman with incredible guitar chops (thankfully he also knows when "not to play") a brilliant and emotive voice, a great song-writer/selecter as well as bandleader who is totally dedicated to his craft. If you haven't seen him live, I hope you get to before he graduates to the big arenas as you will remember it all your life if you love this type of music
