Overview
Single mother Abby Wallace (Michelle Collins) has spent her whole life on a rundown estate in East London and has never realised her dreams of leaving and making a better future for herself and her two children, Alfie and Charlotte. When she walks out of the latest in a long line of dead end jobs to deal with Alfies bullying problem (he is the bully), she knows it is time to do something. Meanwhile, on the remote Scottish island of Ronansay, the Council has decided to close the primary school. It has only three pupils and needs five to stay open. The islanders fear that if the school closes, the young families will move away, leaving the island to die off with the older inhabitants. Led by Douglas Raeburn, owner of the hotel, they decide to advertise for a family with two children to come and live on the island and run a Bed and Breakfast.
