Delius is hard to bring off for conductors. Too often his music sounds to weak and meak,as wallpaper music for a Planet Earth documentary. Even big ones as Barbirolli and Hickox have their problems.
Beecham, as is known, had a natural feeling for this music, that he single-handed promoted his whole life. His pupil Del Mar is also a great Delian, as you can witness here in A Mass of Life, Delius nietzschean ode to life.
Nice to know the three rest together (see http://sedgemore.com/2009/04/a-very-musical-graveyard/). A young Kiri Te Kanawa sings the soprano part.
