Description We barely survived the first Tarthet assault on our planet.

Afterward, it didn't take long for us to realize that our world was too devastated to provide for us any longer. In a bid to allow the planet to recover, we left our homes behind to live among the stars. Five centuries later, science has shown us many wonderful things, and we have finally begun to accept the fact that it may be many generations more before we can return to our homeworld.

Now, the Tarthet have returned to claim our birthright for their own. The odds are against us, but we will not give up this battle. We will not simply concede defeat and fade away. We will fight them with every last breath.

WE WILL SURVIVE!

Children of the Gods is a series on which I have been writing for the last few years. It is composed of three books, which follow the trials of humanity as the Terrans fight for their right to exist, and ultimately face the truth of mankind’s destiny.

The series was originally inspired by the book Footfall by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, and later, more heavily, by the movie based on that book, Independence Day. In the book, aliens come to Earth to move in and take the indegenous primitive species (us) into it’s tribal structure. In the movie, they come simply to kill us all and take our planet and its resources for themselves.

When I began Children of the Gods, I chose to follow the storyline of the movie. Specifically, I wondered to myself, “What would happen if there were survivors among the wreckage of their massive ships?”

I also couldn’t help but ask myself the next logical question:

“What would happen after such an attack?”

The answers that formulated in my head were interesting, and many different ideas and situations came to mind as I took the concept and ran with it. The result is a story of epic proportions.

There is a problem with the story though. It’s not finished!

“So why am I here,” you’re asking.Well, you’re here to listen to a unique and exciting story that is released as it is written!

Specifically, I chose to start this audio project with the second book in the series, which is where the fun stuff really starts to happen. If people show enough interest, I will not only finish the second book here, but will likely move ahead with the third and final book in this form as well.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed writing it thus far, and as much as my friends and family and I enjoyed bringing it to life!

-CMack

Traxxis (unpublished)

An unofficial prequel to CotG, this story is a power trip extreme.

Peter Harmon is a successful biophysicist who is murdered and subsequently caught up in a covert operation to eliminate violent crime on the planet. During his training as an unwilling agent, Peter gains extraordinary abilities that give him godlike power.

Now, he is torn between completing his impossible task, or attempting to regain his humanity once more.

Book One : Ashes (unpublished)

Humanity reels from the aftershocks of the first Tarthet attack. The alien armada was defeated by sacrifice, clever thinking and a healthy dollop of luck.

This book follows the efforts of Daryl Jenson -mercenary and great grandson of Peter Harmon- who has been hired to infiltrate the restricted zone in central northern Canada, where the Global Consortium is secretly building the framework for a massive space station.

Jenson’s client wants to know exactly what’s going on in there, and why, for such knowledge would be worth billions to the wrong people.

But when Daryl returns to his clients with the information, he finds they no longer want anything to do with him, and that he is now a hunted man.

Book Two : Earthlings No More (currently in progress via podcast)

Humanity’s exile from earth is long past and nearly forgotten, but the Tarthet are coming back in force to finish what they started.

This story follows Captain Master Pilot Kevin Corval and his fighter squadron, Nova, as they fight the Tarthets’ progress into our solar system on behalf of the Unified Defense Force and all humanity.

Haunted by a past he is almost desperate to forget, Corval finds himself at the center of a chain of events that could result in the final destruction of all mankind at the hands of the Tarthet.

Book Three : Final Stand

(planned for release via podcast)

New castmember Steve Riekeberg takes the reigns and the bull by the horns as he assumes the character of Captain Michael Hutsford. Salty veteran Jeff Schultz slides over and gives life to Chief Engineer Warren Gregory!

Fun Facts: Fido's computerized voice presented a challenge, as the software used to create the voice was unable to produce the halting simple-talk of the alien. Creating the voice required manual editing of the sound to provide the proper gaps. More on how the voice was created will be presented in the second episode of the BackStage Pass Show

Chapter 8 : A New Clan

Released: November 6, 2007

The captured Tarthet pilot is determined to survive, by any means necessary!

The new cast additions are proving to be worth their weight in gold, but what about the regulars? Well don't get all uptight and worried, because the whole gang will be back again in Chapter 9!

Fun Facts: Fido's new computerized voice was much easier to deal with this time around, largely thanks to the particular voice I chose to use. It seemed to be well suited for the halting, simple speech needed for the part. Remember that everything you hear is from a particular character's perspective. If Corval is in the scene, it'll be from his perspective alone that you'll (usually) experience the story. This aspect will be accentuated, starting with this chapter.

Chapter 9 : Mindgame

Released: February 10, 2008

New background music makes this show one of the most engaging, exciting episodes yet! Grab your headphones and crank up the bass boost. Some popcorn might be a good idea too, because this chapter ended up being much longer than usual!

Fun Facts: This is the longest episode yet, thanks to a scene that was added just prior to giving the greenlight to the voice talent. The episode length is usually determined by the number of pages in the script, but there were so many sound effects and additional material that the extra time was unavoidable.

Over 200 sound clips were used in this chapter, not including voices, voice effects and music.

Producer's Comments:

I had a hard time NOT constantly going back in and nit-picking myself to death over little incidental effects. Also, this episode features the new CotG theme, and some completely custom music by yours truly!

Part 1 required 22 channels and nearly 200 discrete sound clips to complete, including voices.

Also featured in this episode are the all-new, completely custom Decimator effects!

While I have some exposure to fanfilms, I hadn't before discovered Audio Drama spinoffs from books and/or movies (as the author noted, Footfall was the basis for the film Independence Day).

I have found this series to be a pleasant surprise. Both the plot and production have steadily increased in quality with each episode.

What has REALLY caught my eye is the expansion of the cast. Looking closer, I discovered something I believe is pretty rare in ongoing productions, ie, OPEN casting calls. Ever had acting dreams? Think you have an interesting voice? This site actually WELCOMES your aspirations. While I HAVE seen MANY Original Audio Drama sites calling for volunteers for tech related issues, finding one opening up not only behind the scenes positions (such as Foley artists) but ACTUAL casting is new to me.

Take a listen and decide for yourself (btw, the fanmap is pretty cool too)

Enjoy and peace
