SERIES 3

EPISODE 1 - IT AIN'T NECESSARILY SO

Ron is having problems with Stella, who doesn't even invite him to her New Years Eve party. Gary, who has got back from a skiing holiday, gives him a present of a watch, which is set for 1941, and he says will be unreliable. In 1941, Gary upsets Mrs. Bloss by bringing Phoebe into his room, and gets thrown out. However, in 1995, he finds out a dark secret about her husband leaving her, and blackmails her. At the New Year's Eve party, because it was British Summertime all year round in the 1940s, Gary is able to see the New Year in in both eras. In 1995, after Yvonne speaks to Stella, she invites Ron, but he is late. Eventually, he comes, and uses the excuse that his watch stopped.

EPISODE 2 - ONE O'CLOCK JUMP

While Gary's shop is doing well, Yvonne is depressed because she can't find a job, so Gary applies for one for her. Ron, meanwhile is depressed with his marital problem. Gary has another encounter in the shop with Reg's grandson (who booked him for trying to drink-drive), but in 1942, Reg claims he and his Minnie don't have any children. Gary does some detective work, and, wearing his 'spy' hat, traces Margie, a bus conductors wife, whom Reg had a fling with, and introduces Reg to his son Frank. In 1996, Yvonne has a job interview over dinner, but it is nearly jeopardised by Gary's differences of opinions. However, the interviewer is impressed that they're being open and honest, and Yvonne gets the job.

EPISODE 3 - IT'S A SIN TO TELL A LIE

Ron is still having problems with Stella. In 1942, where he sings 'Delilah' to a pub full of people, he also discovers forged notes circulating. Back in 1996, he accuses Ron of deliberately printing shonky notes because he is jealous of him, but then realises it is a Nazi spy. This spy, Owen, Reg accuses of flirting with his Minnie. When he becomes a suspect, Gary, Phoebe and Reg search his house, where there suspicions are confirmed, and they learn Owen has caught the train at Victoria Station. They get on the train and look for him, but the train guard won't let them into the guard van, but is forced to when he starts singing 'Delilah'. There, they find Owen, who told the guard he was feeling sick. Reg arrests Owen, and learns he can't have had an affair with Minnie, because he had his penis shot off, but Reg says it's no excuse for betraying the country. In 1996, meanwhile, Gary has been helping Yvonne with her coursework by telling her this story, the only change being that the spy is called 'Barry'. When Yvonne asks which pub Phoebe works in, in front of Ron, he is stunned, because he thinks he's told her. When they go to bed, Yvonne, thinking the story is so lifelike, offers to play Phoebe, but Gary doesn't want to play, especially not when she says he can be Reg.

EPISODE 6 - TURNED OUT NICE AGAIN

In the Royal Oak, Gary is asked to sing one of his songs for someones 63rd birthday, so he plays and sings 'When I'm 64'. Mr. Wyx comes in and, hearing the song, which he pretends he wrote, wants him to publish it. Also, George Formby qwants to play it at the Hackney Empire, but Gary doesn't want to, after all, that's meddling with history. In his shop in 1996, he confides in Ron, who mocks that if he makes a request, he might play 'Strawberry Fields Forever'. Then a customer comes in, seing the notice for the Hackney Empire from 1942, claiming that never happened. Back in 1942, George Formby gets drunk, and soon forgets the song, as Gary realises why he never performed at the Hackney Empire.

EPISODE 7 - THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT A SOLDIER

EPISODE 8 - SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME

In 1942, Phoebe is very ill with pneumonia. The medicines are doing very little for her. In 1996, Ron offers some penicillin, which used to be for his dog Sheba. Gary also takes some of Yvonne's. Phoebe ends up taken to hospital. At home, Reg is painting the cellar. When Gary sees him wearing a white coat, he has an idea. They both go to the hospital disguised as doctors, where Reg overdoes it when dealing with a new nurse, who criticises the name 'Dr. Deadman'. Gary manages to give Phoebe the penicillin. Later, she questions Gary about the name on the bottle, asking if she's another woman he has. Unable to lie, he is relieved when he realises the name is 'Sheba', and denies the allegation. Phoebe is relieved, telling Gary she'd hate to think he's two-timing her. This leads him to confessing that he's a time-traveller, who lives in 1996, and has a wife called Yvonne. He then turns round to see her reaction, but she has fallen asleep.
