The Banana Splits Adventure Hour was an hour-long, packaged television program that featured both live action and animated segments. The series was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, and ran for 31 episodes on NBC Saturday mornings, from September 7, 1968 to September 5, 1970. The series costumes and sets were designed by Sid and Marty Krofft and the series' sponsor was Kellogg's Cereals. The show was Hanna-Barbera’s initial foray into mixing live action with animation. The hosts of the show were Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky (a dog, gorilla, lion, and elephant).
The series has never been released on DVD and I read somewhere that the original source material had been damaged so a DVD release would be unlikely.
The show also had three mini shows running within each episode as follows:
Danger Island was a live-action, cliff-hanger adventure serial that aired in short segments as part of the Banana Splits Adventure Hour. It produced the catch phrase "Uh oh, Chongo!"
The story concerns Professor Hayden, his daughter, and his young assistant (Vincent). They are searching for the lost ancient city of Tobanya -- as well as for the professor's missing brother -- among uncharted islands of the South Pacific when they are attacked by pirates seeking lost treasure. The pirates destroy their boat, marooning our heroes on the island -- but not ending their search. They are soon joined by newfound friends Morgan and Chongo, two merchant seamen who had been marooned themselves years before. Along the way, our heroes must not only fend off the pirates, who are after the rumored treasure of the lost city, but also outwit native island headhunters.
The story of the Arabian Knights is set in ancient Bagdad way before Gulf War 1. The rightful ruler is a young Prince Turhan, until the evil Sultan Bakaar and his minions usurped the throne. The young Prince Turhan now becomes a wanted man, narrowly escaping his pursuers when he encounters a magician called Fariek. Fariek transforms them both into blue wisps of smoke. Once the guards have gone they become human again. Enchanting a table to make it fly, they make their escape. They hide in a cavern where they meet Raseem aka "Rasime the great". Raseem is an incredibly strong man who befriends them once he realises they are enemies of the evil Sultan Bakaar. The three allies then set off to enlist the aid of Prince Turhans uncle the Kalif who is travelling on a small donkey called Zazuum. When the reach the Caliphs city they find that the Kalif has been deposed by the evil Sultan Bakaar, and is now imprisoned. The Kalifs daughter Nida, (Prince Turhan cousin) is about to be sold into slavery. The allies manage to free her; however they are cornered by Sultan Bakaar's guards until they are assisted by Bez, a man who can transform into any animal he can imagine. Turning into an elephant, he bulldozers his way through Bakaars guards and carries everyone to safety. The newly formed group of friends decide to work together to restore the kingdom to its rightful rulers.
