Recorded in June 1950 and April 1952 in Paris, and, as the title might lead you to believe, these sessions find Byas soloing melodically on mid-tempo ballads. With only one upbeat blues jam, the set list is on the mellow side. There's little display of the advanced swing stylings that he's most well-known for, though it's a subtly pleasant listen. ~ J.
