Following a successful adaptation John Harvey's 'Lonely Hearts', unconvential police detective Charles Resnick returns for a second outing in 1993. Resnick is British crime fiction’s best kept secret with Harvey using the characters Polish roots as a background so he could have many oddities, such as ‘his compassion and his romanticism, his love of jazz’. Set in Nottingham this two-part drama based on the novel 'Rough Treatment' follows Resnick as he investigates two unorthodox burglars, Grice and Grabianski, but nothing is as straightforward as it first appears.

EPISODE ONE (25th July 1993)
Resnick and his team are called out to a robbery at the house of TV director Harold Roy. He immediatly suspects that Roy's wife may not be telling the entire truth when she gives an unconvincing discription of the buglars. Grice and Grabianski, however have stumbled on something more than they expected too - Roy's a cocaine dealer. Things begin to become really complicated when Grabianski takes a shine to Roy's wife, Maria.

An apparently straightforward murder case becomes a major test for Charles Resnick as he tries to unravel the connection between Ray, Grice, Grabianski, a local 'Mr Big' and the whereabouts of his stash of cocaine. The dangerous Grabianski on the other hand has his own plans which may be out of Resnick's control.
