The year is 2013. London has been evacuated following a nuclear bomb and the country's power base has
shifted north. In the wake of the attack, MI5 must completely restructure and establish field offices across
the UK, working to gather intelligence from the very heart of local communities.
They need young, new officers on the ground, and fast. Luckily, Britain's youth is more than up to the
challenge and is fighting back from the attack with a new sense of patriotism, combined with the hedonism
that comes from being face to face with their own mortality. It's members of this new generation of patriots
who help make up MI5's new Field Office 19.
Led by experienced spook Hannah (Joanne Froggatt, Life On Mars) the rookie team is made up of Charlie
(Liam Boyle, Drop Dead Gorgeous) a mathematician and genius problem solver, Rachel (Ruta Gedmintas,
The Tudors) an ex-police officer with ambitions to be a leader, and Jez (Heshima Thompson, Prime Suspect:
The Final Act) a new breed of spook altogether - a former criminal gone straight. As well as Vik (Christopher
Simpson, Brick Lane) who chose MI5 over a career in his family's business, whilst Rob (Andrew Knott, The
History Boys) was a junior doctor at the time of the bomb and Kylie (Georgia Moffett, Doctor Who) was a
psychology student, just back from her gap year.
Nearly one year on from the bomb, Britain is starting to get back to something resembling normality. But,
under the surface, there have been massive changes: terror warnings and security checkpoints are regular
features of everyday life, and there's a flourishing black market in everything from ID cards to anti-radiation
drugs. This is the world of Spooks: Code 9 and it holds a whole new set of dangers for MI5's young pretenders.
Charlie Green's first mission with Field Office 19 is to foil an apparent assassination plot against the British
prime minister. Charlie finds himself in uncharted territory when he unwittingly becomes team leader and is
given five and half hours to track down the would-be killer.
Protestors hack into Emergency Communications System and broadcast a video of dead inmates at a state
prison. MI5 publicly deny the footage is real, prompting the terrorists to set off a series of false alerts. Charlie
discovers MI5 corruption relating to the London bombing.
Jez and Kylie go undercover to investigate a source of fake radiation drugs, but the killing of a police officer
puts the pair in grave danger. Meanwhile Charlie and Rachel discover further clues in the investigation of
Hannah's death and MI5 corruption.
The horrific murder of two MI5 informants lead the team to discover a leak at a government-run Missing
Person's Scheme. The race is on to find the source of the corruption and stop the killings before they escalate.
Rachel goes undercover to find further information on the MI5 cover up and learns a British scientist may have
been wrongly imprisoned for his part in the bomb plot.
A bank heist by eco terrorists, involving a 16-year-old suicide bomber, leads the team to uncover a secret deal
between the British government and a Korean billionaire. Will the team be able to free the hostages and stop
the terrorists from completing their deadly mission? Charlie speaks to the British scientist wrongly imprisoned
for the London attack and discovers there may be a second nuclear bomb.
With the anniversary of the London attack imminent and the knowledge there may be a second nuclear
device still out there, Charlie and the team have 24 hours to locate the bomb and identify the MI5 traitor before
another major national catastrophe is allowed to happen.
