Interview room at police station. Steph, two police officers and her Solicitor are in the room. DI Carp is questioning Steph regarding her phone call to her husband and asking her if he had told her that Terence had turned up. She replies that he didn't but that she knew something was wrong and had gone straight home. When she had got home before Adam had been able to say anything Terence had burst through the cellar door. DS Anders, making notes, asks Steph if it was correct that she had said that Terence had started the violence. She nods and says that Terence had gone for Adam and that she had tried to pull him off but he was too strong for her and then he had followed her up the stairs. DI Carp asks her if she had any idea why he was attacking her but she says that she didn't feel that he was attacking her, but Adam, and that she should be frightened of Adam and not him. DS Anders interrupts saying is that when she didn't believe him and is that when she killed him. She angrily denies this and continues to say Terence had reached out for her, and Adam had hit him the fire extinguisher, adding that she supposed it was the nearest thing. She continues that Adam stood staring at her with blood coming out of his head when Adam hit him again and he had fallen down the stairs. DS Anders leans towards her and sarcastically asks her if she is sure that is how it had happened and Steph replies that she would not lie about a thing like that. DI Carp looks at his colleague and then back at Steph.
At the bed and breakfast DI Carp is just coming out of the cottage to talk to DS Anders who is waiting outside. DS Anders asks him how it is going and DI Carp says they haven't found the murder weapon yet and DS Anders responds that it is an alleged murder weapon, he says it depends on whether Dr Forsythe hit Terence with a fire extinguisher, and DI Carp asks does he think she was lying about that as well. DS Anders says she wouldn't know the truth if it got up and bit her. DI Carp says they will have to wait and see and forensics will be through soon enough. DS Anders says it will still be quicker if he lets him get a confession out of Steph, and DI Carp replies that patience is a virtue. They are both watched at this time by Steph and Alan Turner stood in the doorway of their cottage. DI Carp stops to ask a police constable on guard at the gate, if there is any news on Dr Forsythe yet and the policemen replies that there isn't but that they have started house to house enquiries.
