'Viaggiatrice Solitaria - Il Meglio Di Alice' ('Solitary Traveller - The Best of Alice') is a greatest hits compilation with Italian singer-songwriter Alice, released by EMI in 1995 and including tracks from the albums 'Capo Nord' (1980), 'Alice' a.k.a. 'Per Elisa' (1981), 'Azimut' (1982), 'Gioielli Rubati' (1985), 'Park Hotel' (1986, featuring Tony Levin, Phil Manzanera and Jerry Marotta), Il Sole Nella Pioggia (1989, with Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri - both former members of Japan and Rain Tree Crow - Jon Hassell, Dave Gregory and Kudsi Erguner) and 'Mezzogiorno Sulle Alpi' (1992, with Richard Barbieri, Danny Thompson, Gavin Harrison, Dave Gregory and Jakko Jakszyk). Among the tracks featured are Alice's international breakthrough single "Per Elisa" which won the San Remo Festival in 1981, two duets with long-time collaborator Franco Battiato; "Chan-Son Egocentrique" and the Eurovision Song Contest entry "I Treni Di Tozeur" along with a selection of Alice's best-loved songs like "Nomadi", "Le Ragazze Di Osaka", "Viali Di Solitudine", "Prospettiva Nevski", "L'Era Del Mito", "Volo Di Notte" and "Il Sole Nella Pioggia".
'Viaggiatrice Solitaria' was compiled in consultation with Alice herself and became her final project with EMI. After fifteen years with the label but following a three year long legal dispute between the singer and EMI Italiana who wanted her to produce what they saw as more chart oriented and "commercial" music and concerning the rights to her back-catalogue, both Alice and her labelmate Franco Battiato left EMI. For her following album "Charade" Alice instead signed with the Warner Music label. EMI have since released numerous other "best of" compilations with songs from Alice's early repertoire all through the 1990's and 2000's, both as single disc sets and double albums and in various price ranges - and with a few minor additions and omissions generally featuring the same selection of tracks.
