This is a romantic comedy, set on Cape Cod in 1905, about three 70-year-old retired sea captains who try to lure an attractive middle-aged woman into marriage.
Three Salty Dogs (David Carradine, Rip Torn and Bruce Dern) seek One Spicy Kitten (Mariel Heminway).
Shot on Cape Cod, this is first and foremost a “period piece”. The pace of this cantankerous caper may be a little slow and measured, but you will be entertained nevertheless if you sit back and enjoy the wonderful scenery and the ocean-crusted, pipe-chewing, squinty peformances of Carradine, Torn and Dern as well as Hemingway's welcome pluck. It may not be the most exciting film you will see this month, but ‘The Golden Boys’ is safe, easily digestible entertainment with charming performances from a group of seasoned actors and a fine ensemble supporting cast.
