"Out of the Unknown" was a science fiction series broadcast by the BBC between 1965 and 1971 and was a mixture of original screenplays and adaptations of stories by distinguished authors including Isaac Asimov, J.G. Ballard, Ray Bradbury, Robert Sheckley and Frederick Pohl and Nigel Kneale.

NO PLACE LIKE EARTH (4th October 1965)
This episode was an amalgamation of two stories by the acclaimed author John Wyndham, best known for The Day of the Triffids. Fifteen years after the Earth exploded, Bert Foster is a loner who travels the canals of Mars as a tinker-cum-handyman, visiting the settlements of the peaceful and contented Martians. At one particular settlement, Annika has him in mind as a son-in-law, but her attempts to manœuvre him towards her daughter, Zaylo, are cut short when a spaceship passes overhead, and Bert heads off in pursuit of it. The ship - the last one flying - has come from Venus, were engineers have succeeded in making it habitable for the colonists who managed to escape Earth before its destruction. With the carrot of human female companionship dangled in front of them, Bert and some of the men elect to leave Mars.
