The Merritton Tunnel, frequently referred to as the Grand Trunk Railway Tunnel is a historic landmark in the community of Thorold, Ontario, which runs under lock 18 of the former third Welland Canal (1887-1932). It is nicknamed "Blue Ghost Tunnel" after a blue ghost that allegedly haunts the tunnel. The tunnel is still intact but is sealed at one end. We visited the tunnel before it was walled.
