This is NOT a passworded archive or file with DRM. MKV stands for 'MatrosKa Video'.
Matroska is an increasingly popular, open source, DRM free container format
for all type of streams. It handles subtitles also, so no separate subtitle
file is necessary. For more info, see this site http://www.matroska.org/
Foolproof way to get this file to play perfectly on a decent machine
(If the machine is not atleast a Pentium 4, playback will lag and be unwatchable)
1. To make sure you have necessary codecs and the best software for playback,
Download and install CCCP from http://www.cccp-project.net/
(It is a community managed codec pack. Not some spyware)
2. Play the file using Media Player Classic that gets installed along with the pack.
You can find it in the newly added start-menu entry of CCCP. This is an extremely
versatile open source media player.
1. Download, install and use VLC Player. But I suggest you go for the previous
option of CCCP. You will like it.
NOTE: If your system is not powerful enough for playback,
use mplayer from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/ . It is some work to get it up and running,
but will make the movie as watchable as it can be made on your legacy system.
