In the old walled city of Delhi, just off the fabled Chandni Chowk, lives Sardari Begum, the classical singer. One evening a skirmish breaks out in the neighborhood due to the forthcoming election. Sardari gets hit and dies. Her funeral becomes a media event. A reporter is shocked to discover that her father is one of the mourners and Sardari was his sister, disowned and erased because she made the crime of wanting to learn music. Her whole story now starts to unfold before this reporter.
