It's about damn time that Mille and the guys released a DVD. This is one well produced disc thanks in part to Mille who had his hand involved in every aspect in putting this together. He said that he watched other bands' DVDs to see how good or bad they were and was disappointed. He wanted to make sure that he would put out a product that fans will enjoy and get the most out of and boy do you get plenty of goodies here.
What you get here is a concert shot in widescreen which is shot beautifully. The lighting and camera work is just absolutely second to none. You bounce back and forth on the South American tour and Korea at the Busan festival. A lot of tracks here are from the "Violent Revolution" tour which is bad ass because this album goes back to their roots which is what we were all waiting for. After the 90's with several experimental albums that weren't satisfactory to the fans, Mille knew it and did what was best and that's Kreate what the fans always wanted, the sound of old.
The band is all in tip top shape as they perform in front of a bunch of wild fans in South America for the first few songs here. After the first 3 songs, you are treated to a mini clip of the band arriving in Korea and showing the fans love for the band. What is funny here is that the God of drummers, Gene Hoglan was there at the fest too with SYL I would imagine and he talks about the band a tad. The best part of this movie clip before performing a zillion fans at the Busan festival which looked really cool is that a woman asks Mille why does the band write such dark and gloomy lyrics and music. She is obviously a fan because you see her with the shirt. Mille's response is classic: "because we all have to die." That is priceless. You will agree when you see it.
That is what's awesome about KREATOR. They were never one to sugar coat things. While the images on many of their CD's were violent and bleak, this was not just senseless imagery. It meant something just like their lyrics. Mille is very political in his lyrics if you can't tell. He even rips on his own country of Germany in the 90's because of their bad judgement in politics and wrote "People Of The Lie". The Busan festival shows many great shots of the fans banging their heads and raising their fists. Even the girls get into it hardcore. You have to love that. Why can't the girls in the U.S. be as energetic to see KREATOR like the Koreans?
After a few songs from there, you go back to South America where you see some footage of the band, the fans and SODOM speaks out a little about their competitors from back in the 80's when not only the two were a part of the Thrash movement in Germany, but DESTRUCTION were involved as well. We are also treated to a section devoted to KREATOR fans who show off their best tatts in front of the camera. There is also festival footage from Gods Of Metal, Wacken and With Full Force. Many members of other bands show their love for the band like MARDUK, Angela from ARCH ENEMY, MOONSPELL and the grand daddy of them all: Tobias of AVANTASIA/EDGUY. That was a real shock. I guess he loves the fellow Germans too. More features are inserted like from the tours of the U.S. and the U.K. as well. Everything was shot well and put together and edited even better. This is just awesome. Great job Mille. The hard work and many hours invested is just remarkable because we have a great product.
Now that we are finished with the concert, on to the special features. You get two songs from the With Full Force Festival which gives you "Flag Of Hate" and "Tormentor" also shot in widescreen. There is a discography page with all of their CD's with cover album shots a list of all the songs as well. You can pop this DVD into your DVD-ROM of the computer and hook up with the merchandise with a click of the mouse and access to the internet. There is also a 2 minute clip of the making of this live album showing the fans what it took to make this great product. I wish they could have shown more. I am always fascinated at what it takes to make a great video or CD.
Lastly, there is a history of the band with a lot of archival footage that Mille obviously took a lot of time to dig up and show the fans. A lot of this stuff is ancient and probably hasn't either been shown before or just not seen in a very long time. There are also all ten of the videos that the band ever made up to "Violent Revolution". The sweet part of this feature is that you can watch the timeline of the band and the videos separately or you can watch it all together at once where the timeline begins with each year and before jumping to the next year of the band's career a video from that period is inserted. Nice job! The narrator does a great job talking about the bands career from A to Z and tells you everyone that has been replaced.
Everybody knows that the video for "Toxic Trace" wasn't the best, but things slightly began to look up on "Betrayer". "People Of The Lie" is produced better thanks to a better budget and is shot in widescreen. "Renewal" is also shot in widescreen for those of you who care. Other videos that you may or may not know about are "Lost", "Isolation", "Leave This World Behind", "Endorama" which features Tilo Wolf of LACRIMOSA on guest vocals, "Chosen Few", and lastly "Violent Revolution".
If you are a true Thrash fan old or new school and this doesn't wet your appetite, then you should be shot. This is a well produced DVD with all the trimmings and is a must have for your music DVD collection. In the words of the German Metal band SCANNER: "BUY OR DIE!"
