Remembering Tommy Vance, 1940-2005 [Upgraded Version]

This is the upgraded version of the earlier torrent entitled 'Remembering Tommy Vance, 1941-2005' (Tommy's correct birth year was 1940). If you already have the old version, replace it with this one, which includes all the material featured in the old torrent, plus lots of new stuff, both whole shows and shorter clips such as jingles etc.

A couple of files from the old version have been renamed, just to correct titles and years, or simply to get a more logical listing. Therefore it wont work to just add the new files; Discard the old version and keep the new one only. If you didn't have the old version in the first place, the new one is all you need.

Someone might have noticed that the 'Total Rock, Rock On, Tommy Day, 2005-03-11' folder contains lesser files than in the previous version. Don't worry, this is because I've removed the files which included a bonus tag at the end, as they are also featured in the 'Jingles, Show Excerpts, Interviews etc., 1965-2005' folder. These clips weren't actually featured in the program, I just added them in the mix as a bonus in the old torrent.

Some of the files have been shortened which is for the same reason just discussed; I've edited out a few jingle segments etc. which were featured on the show, as they are already present in the above mentioned folder, just to avoid duplicates.

A number of files from the actual 'Jingles, Show Excerpts, Interviews etc., 1965-2005' folder itself have been removed as well, for example a few short clips with Tommy from the 'Top 40 Chart Show' in 1984. This is because in the upgraded version I've included the complete show instead.

The Radio London and Radio Luxembourg shows were originally in two parts each, but have now been merged into one file per show.

I've also edited out some glitches at the beginning and/or end on some of the files which might affect the length with a few seconds.

Lastly, a short notice on the 'Rock On, Tommy Day'. This was a feature Total Rock [http://www.totalrock.com] had on March 11th, just a few days after Tommy's passing. They celebrated his life and work with a live broadcast that ran for 15 hours, which included lots of music, testimonials from artists and colleagues, but also from people who wrote down their thoughts on Tommy at a special Forum, In Memoriam: Tommy Vance, put up at the Total Rock website.

What is included in the torrent is the main part of the broadcast. I've edited out commercials and segments that were repeated during the day. All interviews and testimonials from artists and other people from the music industry are included, plus all tracks played during the day (might be one or two missing). The testimonials (a couple by phone) from the forum visitors, which were read out loud during broadcast by the presenters are not present as I decided to focus on the artists. They are not lost though, and can be read at the Memorial Page already mentioned:

During the day one segment was intended to be broadcasted from Spain. However, due to technical difficulties that never happened. The segment was interrupted almost instantly, and for at least half an hour, maybe more, the airwaves lay silent (Partly interrupted by techno music!). When the connection was picked up again there was a short chat about the technical difficulties plus some words on Tommy which are not included here.

After the actual live broadcast ended, the last Friday Rock Show Tommy did for BBC in 1993 was re-broadcasted. This is not included in the torrent as I had some technical difficulties myself, but as already said, this was a BBC re-run, and not actually part of the Total Rock live broadcast. In addition, there might be talk in between songs by the presenters which have been edited out. This was mostly information on what song was played, by what artist and so on though, and if a story, personal memory or something like that was told, I've included it.

So, looking at the broadcast as a whole, the core of the event is intact. I'm glad I was able to record it at all, as my computer equipment in those days wasn't made for recording, not to mention storing a 15 hour internet broadcast. To my knowledge, this is the only circulating recording of the event.
