Francois Ozon, francese classe 1967, è sicuramente uno dei registi più interessanti della nuova generazione. Tutta i suoi film sono meritevoli di essere presi in considerazione anche se, a detta della critica accreditata, i migliori sono: 8 donne ed un mistero (2002), Sotto la sabbia (2000) e Gocce d'acqua su pietre roventi (1999).
E' opportuno precisare che Ozon ha tratto questo film da un testo teatrale del grande Rainer Werner Fassbinder che non era mai stato portato in scena.
Il film si rifà alla struttura del "Kammerspiel" sviluppandosi in un ambiente chiuso (un appartamento) visto, simbolicamente, come una prigione.I quattro interpreti sono tutti bravi ma è d'obblico citare la prova di Bernard Giraudeau attore di grande spessore. In definitiva un film tedesco, nel segno di Fassbinder che Ozon riesce a far suo sin dall'inizio.
