Unhappily married and uncomfortable with high society, Julia Sturges (Barbara Stanwyck) takes her two children and boards the Titanic for America to live a normal life in Mackinac, Michigan. However her plans are altered when her husband Richard (Clifton Webb) also arranges passage on the Titanic hoping to reconcile with them. Throughout the crossing, secrets are revealed and romance begins to blossom however an iceberg changes the outcome for them all.
