Ripped from UK Digital TV. Only available on DVD as part of an expensive box-set.
Stars Barbara Stanwyck and (the extremely handsome) David Manners. Directed by Frank Capra.
Florence "Faith" Fallons (Stanwyck) father dies after being fired from the church where he preached for many years. She becomes embittered and loses faith. She teams up with Hornsby, a con-man, and performs fake miracles for profit. But the love and trust of a blind man, John Carson (Manners) restores her faith in God and her fellow man...
The films slightly goofy in places... I mean, the blind guy owns a ventriloquist dummy and uses it to deliver his chat-up lines! But theres something very modern about the film in its story and delivery... Its very pro-faith and anti-organised religion.
Also notable are the pre-Hays Code touches, like the chaffeur flipping the bird (see image above) and the suggestion of more than just kissing on the first date.
Its a really good movie - if just a little preposterous.
