Finally the DVD release of a fabulous movie with Pryor. Vietnam POW (Richard Pryor) returns home after 6 years of captivity, but nothing could have prepared him for the surprises that await him. Because of Pryor's presence (and the film's poster), I thought this was a comedy. It is in fact a drama that happens to have moments of great humor. Overall, the film deals with something very serious: the treatment of war veterans in USA. Comic interludes make the message of the film more palatable, but make no mistake, this is a movie with a strong social message. I thought the drama was believable, and the humor did not feel intrusive at all (I really found the movie very, very funny). There is something about the film that feels very real, which is why I think the film is a success. Pryor is excellent (one of his best roles), and Margot Kidder has a strange, but interesting role as an expensive call girl. I laughed a lot during this movie, and I thought the message was presented in a very interesting manner.
Had to wait 27 years for this!!!....Enjoy it!
