This is the 1946 colour version of Smoky, based on the Will James novel.
The IMDB link is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038955/
The film was directed by Louis King and starred Fred MacMurray, Anne Baxter, Burl Ives, Bruce Cabot and Esther Dale.
The stated running time in the USA is 87 minutes, but the broadcast time in the UK is 84 minutes (this is due, I am told, to the fact that the PAL system is 25 frames per second and the film projectors run at 24 frames per second - so films always 'run faster' in Europe).
I am sharing this because a number of people on the IMDB message board have said that this film is unavailable to buy or rent on VHS or DVD.
It is an edited recording of a digital broadcast on the UK network FilmFour and was recorded on Saturday 12th May, 2007 on an Archos AV340. I then transferred the AVI file to my PC and edited it using the excellent freeware 'AviTricks Video Editor Classic' (http://www.bobyte.com/). I removed the ads (commercials) and the leading and trailing 'junk' and saved the file.
The resulting file is just about as good as the original recording and has the following specifications:
Image: 320 pixels x 240 pixels (width x height)
Audio: 01:23:36 (duration HH:MM:SS)
56 kbps (kilobits per second - bitrate)
Lame MP3 (format)
Video: 25 fps (frames per second - frame rate)
117 kbps (kilobits per second - data rate)
24 bit (video sample size)
XVID (video compression type)
This file plays OK on both my ATMT Media Player and on my PC, so I hope it plays OK for those who download it.
