This is one of our Japanese movies that I've enjoyed watching for many years.
About 15 years ago I saw it come up on TV--The Internation Channel--where I used to live. I was slow getting my VCR going and I missed the opening credits,
the name and other information.
I think the name of it was Shinozabu Pond. The opening scene shows the name of the entertainment district in Uneo, Tokyo where the story takes place.
My wife tells me that the larger cities in Japan have always had such a district, for all types of entertainment, including geishas.
This story concerns the life and career of such a geisha. I think it is ia more accurate depiction than that shown in Memoirs of a Geisha.
