Torrent description

Category: Audio Lectures
Subcategory: Humanities, Philosophy, Language

Hubert Lederer Dreyfus is a professor of philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley. Dreyfus is well known for making the work of continental philosophers, especially Martin Heidegger, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and Michel Foucault, intelligible to analytically trained philosophers. In these rare lectures from 2001 we study selected examples of Heidegger's writings after he abandoned the "transcendental hermeneutics" of Being and Time and attempted, instead, to think through the history of Western understandings of being. We focus on Heidegger's account of the relation between truth, historical practices, cultural paradigms, language, technology, and nihilism.
