Pantomime Music Publications has released a new 53-page e-book by Gary Ewer, 'Essential Chord Progressions.' It is a companion text to the popular ';The Essential Secrets of Songwriting,' released last September. Its objective is simple: offer dozens and dozens of progressions for songwriters to experiment with so that they can get going with what they really want to be doing: writing songs.
'This e-book is especially ideal for songwriters who use chord progressions as a starting point in the composition process," says Ewer. "Improvising over chord progressions is how many musicians get their inspiration for other features of their songs.'
'Essential Chords' displays progressions in major and minor keys, using standard chord symbols and guitar fretboard diagrams. The first section transposes those changes into different keys, and subsequent sections of the book show the reader how to transpose into different keys. There is a section devoted to progressions that allow songwriters to change to any key in the middle of a song. The progressions included in this e-book include inversions (slash chords), pedal tones, modal mixtures, secondary dominants, suspensions, as well as progressions useful in jazz. Purchasers of the e-book can use any progressions they like, either 'as is', or modified to suit their tastes.
