Backup To DVD/CD, and its cousin Backup Made Simple, are powerful and easy to use tools to make reliable backups of your computer. That's nice, you say. Dozens of companies say the same thing. Lots of programs are perfectly competent at making a reliable backup. What makes our backup programs different? This is an excellent question. Backup To DVD/CD does all the things any decent backup program does, described in detail on our features page. What sets us apart is a number of innovative features you won't find elsewhere:
Backups Readable From Windows Explorer
You can make backups that are readable directly from Windows Explorer, or the "Open File" option in your favorite program! Very convenient to quickly check something on a backup. This also lets you use backups to copy files to different computers, without installing the backup software everywhere.
Adapts Automatically When You Reorganize Folders and Files
Backup To DVD/CD adapts automatically when you add, rename, move or delete folders and files on your hard drive. This means you don't have to remember to fix your backup after reorganizing or adding things on your hard drive!
Very Flexible Folder and File Selection
Most backup programs have only basic point-and-click selection to pick what to back up. We also have wildcard name matching, include and exclude filtering, specification inheritance by subfolders, and several Wizard-based searches to find the data you need to back up.
Re-Check Old Backups For Reliability
Most backup programs give you only one chance to verify that your backup is actually usable - when you make it. Too bad if you discover a year later it's useless. Maybe you bought a new DVD/CD drive and it won't read the backup disc, or your kid scratched the media. Our software lets you re-check an old backup whenever you like, so you know it will work when you need it.
Backup AND Synchronize
Unlike our competitors, Backup To DVD/CD is actually two programs in one: It's a traditional backup program, and it's also a folder/file synchronization program. Synchronization reconciles folders on two computers that should have identical copies of the same files, and automatically updates old or missing files in either location. This lets you work on the same files on different computers, using synchronization to copy your work around as needed without you having to remember which files you modified where.
Sometimes getting knowledgeable and timely help is what you really need. We understand this, and we deliver. Really. This isn't just us saying this - check out our amazing customer testimonials!
Flexible and Easy To Use
Both of our programs contain a comprehensive set of features to let you make backups the way you want, and are easy to set up and use even for non-technical users. In no time at all you'll be making a backup of the important information on your computer, confident that everything you need is protected.
The software has a number of features designed specifically with flexibility and ease of use in mind.
Backup and Synchronize
Our software can make a traditional backup, and it can also synchronize folders and files with copies on another hard drive or another computer. Sychronization is a good alternative to a regular backup when your goal is to keep a second copy of important files, or move files between computers so you can work on either one.
Backup Plan Wizard
Our Backup Plan Wizard will help you find everything on your computer you need to back up, even if you don't know where it is. If you know where something is you can just browse your hard drive and select it with our Windows Explorer-like user interface as well.
Backup Plans Remember What To Do
Once you've figured out what to back up and configured the software to do this, your instructions are saved as a "Backup Plan". The next time you want to make the same backup, just choose your plan from the list of saved plans. No more trying to remember what you did the last time.
Keep Backups Small By Only Saving Recently Changed Files
A total backup of a large hard drive may require many backup discs. You should invest the effort to do this once in a while, but why waste all that time and all those backup discs every time when most of the files on your computer never change? Our software will let you back up only those files that have changed, so in most cases your regular backups will fit on a single disc.
Adapts Automatically When Folders Change
With most backup software you have to remember to reconfigure your backup program in some way if you add or rename folders or files and you want to back them up. Not with ours. Our software automatically includes and new subfolders and files if the folder they were added to was already included in the backup. And the software automatically recognizes when a folder or file is renamed.
Of course, this is just the very beginning of what the software can do!
Two Backup Programs
The only difference between our two programs is that Backup To DVD/CD is configured by default appropriately for DVD, CD and other high capacity media, and Backup Made Simple for more general purpose use and when space is at a premium. Mostly this means Backup Made Simple compresses files to save space on the backup media, and Backup To DVD/CD does not. Each can be configured to operate like the other, they can restore each other's backups, etc. They also accept each other's license ID's so you don't have to buy a second license to use both.
Other Things Worth Noting...
All versions of the software are compatible with all versions of Windows, including 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP.
