Dr. Seuss on the Loose is a 1973 animated television specialcontaining: Sneetches, Zax, Green Eggs and Ham. 25:16
Sneetches are a race of odd, yellow creatures who live on a beach. Some Sneetches have a star on their bellies, and in the beginning of the story the presence or absence of a star is the basis for discrimination. Sneetches who have stars on their bellies are part of the "in crowd", while Sneetches without stars are shunned and consequently mopey.
The story is an obvious parable for the cycle of fashion and how snobbery and insecurity drive consumerism to consumers' own detriment. It contains the messages that all people regardless of race, class or clothing, are equal, and that the human temptation to judge people by their appearance or by the company they seem to keep is full of pitfalls. It may also have deeper connotations of racial discrimination.
The Zax is a lesson about the importance of compromise. In the story a North-going Zax and a South-going Zax meet face to face in the Prairie of Prax.
Because they refuse to move east, west, or any direction except their respective headings, the two Zax become stuck, as they refuse to move around each other. The Zax stand so long that eventually a highway overpass is built around them, and the story ends with the Zax still standing there.
Green Eggs and Ham
There are two characters: one named Sam (always referred to as Sam-I-am), and a second whom is never named. Sam is filled with energy and enthusiasm; his opposite number is morose and irritable. The plot revolves around Sam's efforts to get his friend to try "green eggs and ham". The friend refuses to taste the dish, and only wants to be left in peace. Sam goes through an assortment of locations (house, car, tree) and dining partners (fox, goat, mouse) trying to persuade his friend to eat, but without success.
The triumphant conclusion of Seuss's tale occurs when Sam's pal, standing in shallow water after a train crash, surrounded by various people and beasts, finally agrees to try the delicacy and pronounces it quite tasty. The instant turnaround in the nameless character's attitude is somewhat similar to that of the Grinch, whom Sam's friend physically resembles except in having floppy ears
