When the torso of a young boy was discovered in the River Thames on 21st September 2001, it sparked the most extraordinary murder investigation ever mounted by the Metropolitan police.

With no head or fingerprints and no-one coming forward to claim the boy, the police had precious little to go on. The only thing they knew for certain was that the boy was African in origin, he had been about five to six years of age and he had had a pair of orange shorts placed on his body post mortem.

With the assistance of the Forensic Science Service, the police conducted a breathtaking array of forensic tests, from analysing the content of the boy's lungs and gut, to mitochondrial DNA analysis, in an effort to find out more about his parentage. At the same time, they consulted African specialists to try and find out more about the various human sacrificial rituals which led to his death. In this one hour film, we follow the police over twelve months of this unique investigation as they search for the killers of the boy they named Adam.
