AUS government whistleblower tells Panorama how scientific reports aboutglobal warming have been systematically changed and suppressed.

Some of America's leading climate scientists claim to Panorama that they have been censored and gagged by the administration.

Oneof them believes the publication of his report, which catalogues theunprecedented rate of ice melt in the Arctic, was delayed as Americansprepared to vote in 2004.

The scientists claim that when Bushcame to power in 2000 his administration selected advice which arguedthat global warming was not a result of human activities and that thephenomenon could be natural.

But one of the people whosuggested the president adopt that position explains to Panorama how hehas changed his point of view: "It's now 2006. I think most peoplewould conclude that there is global warming taking place and that thebehaviour of humans is affecting the climate. I am not theadministration. What they want to do is their business. it has nothingto do with what I believe."

Panorama's reporter Hilary Anderssonvisits some of the first refugees of global warming who come from anisland in Arctic Alaska which has been inhabited for 4,000 years agobut is now melting into the sea.

In the last six years mostindustrialised nations have cut greenhouse gas emissions but under BushAmerica's emissions have increased by an average of one per cent ayear.
