Mother/Country is a stunningly filmed, intimate experimental documentary. The film charts the director's return journey back to her Mother's house 20 years after the Iranian Revolution. Through the development of fiction with actors, the filmmaker attempts to unravel the events of the past and to find resolution.
At age six, Tina Gharavi left Iran to live with her father in the West. Now, more than two decades later, filmmaker Gharavi returns to the land of her birth to reconnect with her past, resolve unanswered questions and see her mother for the first time in more than 20 years. As part of her quest, she resolves to discover the reason for her exile: was she was sent away due to the changing political climate under the Ayatollahs, or was there a more personal reason? And while in conversation with her mother, Gharavi reveals her own dramatic news.
