Lucio Urtubia was born in Cacante in a very poor family of 5 brothers, inside the Carlist Navarre. His father went to prison and become communist. At 19 years old Lucio heard from his mouth for the first time the word that would mark his life: "If I could start over, would be an anarchist."

Conscripted for military service, soon discovered facility for contraband in the Spanish-French border. Later, with other services, robbed the store where the company provided its own service. When he was discovered, deserted and fled to France in 1954, because the crimes could lead him to the death penalty.

In Paris he began to work as a bricklayer, who will officially join his entire life. Begin to associate with the Federation of Libertarian Youngs, based in Paris, initially to learn the language, but later fully convinced by the relationship began there, which include among others André Breton and Albert Camus.

Soon to live in Paris was asked to hide a member of the anti maquis in your home. The refugee was the mythical Quico Sabaté, who shared Lucio´s home for several years until his death.
Sabaté supplied families and libertarians in exile in Toulouse, Perpignan, Paris and members who remained in Spanish at Barcelona, Zaragoza, Pamplona and Madrid. Anarquistas ha habido y sigue habiendo bastantes en el mundo. Los que han tenido que cometer atracos o introducirse en el contrabando para la causa son numerosos. Los que han discutido estrategias con El Ché o han ayudado a Eldridge Cleaver -el líder de los Panteras Negras- son los menos. Los que unido a todo lo anterior, hayan conseguido poner contra las cuerdas al banco más poderoso del planeta mediante la falsificación masiva de traveller checks, y sin faltar un solo día a su trabajo de albañil de construcción, sólo hay uno. Lucio Urtubia, hijo de Cascante (Navarra).

Lucio Urtubia nació en Cascante en una familia muy pobre de 5 hermanos, dentro de la carlista Navarra. Su padre entró en la cárcel como carlista y salió convertido en comunista. A los 19 años Lucio oyó de su boca por primera vez la palabra que marcaría su vida: "Si pudiera volver a empezar, sería anarquista".

Reclutado para el servicio militar, descubriría muy pronto la facilidad para realizar contrabando en la frontera hispano-francesa. Más tarde, con otros compañeros del servicio, desvalijó un almacén de la compañía donde prestaba el servicio militar. Al ser descubierto, desertó y huyó a Francia en 1954, ya que los delitos cometidos podían llevar aparejada la pena de muerte.

En París comienza a trabajar de albañil, oficio que le acompañara toda su vida. Comenzó a relacionarse con las Juventudes Libertarias de la Fédération Anarchiste, radicada en Paris, en principio para aprender el idioma, pero más tarde plenamente convencido por las relaciones que allí inició, que incluían entre otros a André Breton y a Albert Camus.

Al poco tiempo de vivir en París se le pidió que escondiera a un miembro del maquis antifranquista en su casa. El refugiado resultó ser el mítico Quico Sabaté, con el que compartió casa durante varios años, hasta la muerte de este.
Sabaté le facilitó direcciones de familias y libertarios exiliados en Toulouse, Perpignan, París y de miembros que seguían en activo de la antigua CNT española en Barcelona, Zaragoza, Madrid y Pamplona. Lucio, ante la detención y encarcelamiento de Quico, empezó a emularlo realizando incursiones en territorio español; posteriormente emprendió una serie de robos y atracos por Europa, para conseguir fondos para la causa revolucionaria, acompañado por su inseparable ametralladora Thompson, heredada de Sabaté a la muerte de este. Más tarde abandonaría estas actividades "por miedo a hacerle daño a los empleados de los bancos"…
