Vanessa Engle, who made Lefties for BBC4, returns with another simply titled series. The first part pokes round the Orthodox enclave of Stamford Hill in north London, detailing its insularity and conservatism. Gawp-worthy titbits abound: schooling stops at 14! Women wear wigs to stop men lusting after their real hair, and put a hat on top! The obvious question is why and how often people break out of these devotional shackles. Sadly, Engle's main subject is Samuel, a twice-divorced, convicted drug trafficker. His unsettling jollity creates more tee-hee moments, but he's too incongruous to provide the insight that a film like this should.
