Divorce Iranian Style shows some of the court
proceedings in divorce cases. The judge is an Islamic
cleric and tries to keep couples together but often at
least one side is determined to get out of wedlock.
Due to the existing law in case of divorce the woman is
entitled to her marriage gift which was agreed upon
before the marriage (usually a larger sum of money)
while the man on the other hand has a right to take

Prostitution Behind the Veil (2004)
As in many other countries of the world prostitution
is illegal in Iran. But for many women it is difficult
or even impossible to get by on a regular job or even
get such a job.
Yet the institution of Sighe (marriage for a fixed
time periode) offers a loophole if a mullah (Shiite
cleric) gives his blessing to the marriage contract.
But some clerics deny their consent to what they
consider to be covert prostitution especially if the
time period is ridiculously short.
