In 1983, the prolific studio Cosgrove Hall released this stop-motion animation film based on Kenneth Grahame's classic 1908 story The Wind in the Willows . The film won several awards ... and even more hearts. Children loved the engaging plot and unforgettable characters, and adult Willows fans appreciated the film's high production values and reasonable authenticity to Grahame's story.

A highly-effective animation technique of latex puppets containing an articulate metal skeleton was utilised. This provided the animators with greater detail and flexibility of the models than would have been possible with alternative methods such as 'claymation'.

Between 1984 and 1990, five series of The Wind in the Willows were produced by the studio, providing a platform for ongoing adventures for the characters.

A second feature-length film entitled A Tale Of Two Toads was released in 1989.

Primary voices are provided by:

David Jason as Mr Toad
Richard Pearson as Mole
Ian Carmichael as Ratty
Sir Michael Hordern as Badger
Beryl Reid as The Magistrate
Una Stubbs as The Gaoler's Daughter

Ian Carmichael would later narrate the television series, to be replaced as the voice of Ratty by Peter Sallis (who also voiced Wallace from the Wallace and Gromit films).
