The Otago Peninsula on New Zealand's South Island is a refuge for extraordinary wildlife. The site is shared by equally as magnificent but sadly endangered animals such as the New Zealand Sea Lion and Yellow Eyed Penguin.

Otago Peninsula is the site of the worlds only mainland royal albatross colony at Tairoa Head on the end of the peninsula. These are the largest of 'trosses and are an everyday site at Tairoa head where they come in from the sea to their nesting sites. The yellow eyed Penguin is endangered, < 5000 left but the sea lion isn't nearly quite that low in numbers. There is also the little blue or fairy penguin there. Plenty of fur seals to be found, spoon bills, and a myriad of bird life in the tidal estuaries.
