An award winning documentary series, first broadcast in the spring of 1994, documents some of the more quirky aspects of relationship between the British public and their cars.

This episode focuses on how domestic relationships that might be peace and love back at the family home collapse into a war of bickering and back-biting as soon as the couples get into their family car: at 70mph on the M1, no one can hear you scream!

We've got the controlling chauvanist pig; the husband who compromises too much for his own good; the greedy man; the guy who never quite grew up - two of them in fact; and the boy-racer who's actually a grandmotherly looking lady of a certain age.

Directed by Nicholas Barker, the film takes an observational standpoint very much in keeping with its times, where there is no narration and the story is told entirely by the participants face on to camera, which is bolted on to the car's bonnet and is staring unblinkingly in through the goldfish bowl of the windscreen to the domestic drama that is going on inside.
