Crown Court was courtroom drama which ran between 1972 to 1984 and shown in the afternoons on ITV where it was produced by Granada Television. A court case in the Crown Court of the fictional town of Fulchester would typically be played out over three weekdays in half-hour episodes. Although those involved in the case were actors, the jury was made up of members of the general public from the local Granada Television area and it was this jury alone which decided the verdict.

REGINA v MAITLAND: CRIMINAL LIBEL
Synopsis: British tennis star Roddy Maitland stormed out of Wimbledon following an argument with an umpire. The following day he was found unconscious in a hotel bedroom with his wrists slashed. The police found a suicide note by the side of his bed. Roddy, now recovered, stands accused of criminal libel as a result of what he wrote in the note. He pleads innocence, however, claiming that everything in the note was true.
