Credit Crash Britain Series 1 (2008) [TVRip (XviD)] preview 0

[Color=blue]Episode 1 - HBOS: Breaking the Bank
The first in a special five-part series from the Money Programme examining different aspects of the credit crunch. Investigating the extraordinary fall of HBOS, they examine the subsequent rescue attempts to explain the seismic changes that swept through the UK's banking industry - culminating in the Government's 50 billion pound rescue plan. They reveal how the last minute deal with Lloyds TSB was brokered with Government assistance against a backdrop of global financial turmoil, and show how the continuing market unease led to the Government's decision to part-nationalise the banking industry.

The programme, presented by Paul Mason, asks if HBOS contributed to its own downfall with its aggressive lending policy designed to seize market share. And they investigate how a bank with hundreds of billions of pounds in assets, and around one in five UK mortgages on its books, found itself fighting for survival.

They also examine the role shorting played in its demise and ask if regulators could have stepped in earlier to protect the bank. And if the merger goes ahead, who will be the winners and losers after the creation of this UK mega-bank?

[Color=blue]Episode 2 - Money For Nothing
The Money Programme's Max Flint investigates how Britain's borrowing boom came to a swift and painful end. A decade of cheap borrowing, overseen by the Bank of England, is over and millions of us are now feeling the pinch.

They chart how the global credit crunch is now having an impact on the streets of Britain. With contributions from people who are now in deep financial trouble, the programme asks what the future will be as the country gets used to life without easily available credit.

[Color=blue]Episode 3 - Property: The End of the Affair?
The Money Programme's Max Flint investigates the property market and asks if renting is the answer for people buffeted by its troubles. For a decade, millions of us have used the seemingly unstoppable rise in property prices to fund a consumer spending boom, but the credit crunch and global slump has put a stop to that.

Max Flint meets the people who are hanging on to the dream of home ownership and those who are convinced that long-term renting makes more financial sense. Also with exclusive research, it reveals if we would have been better off all along renting rather than buying.

[Color=blue]Episode 4 - Food Fight: The Discount Boom
In the fourth in this series examining the impact of the credit crunch, the Money Programme team investigates the changing face of food retail and the rise in popularity of discount supermarkets.

With food prices rising, the latest figures show that 40 per cent of us have shopped at a discounter. Masterchef's Gregg Wallace goes behind the scenes at Britain's largest discount supermarkets and takes a look at the business behind the budget boom and the effect it is having on the competition. He asks shoppers if they can taste the difference between the new cheaper produce and some of their old, more expensive favourites.

The programme looks at how, as we tighten our belts in a time of economic uncertainty, we are changing our shopping habits and asks if the way we buy food will ever be the same again.

[Color=blue]Episode 5 - Slumpbusters
In the last part of the series, the Money Programme's Max Flint travels around the UK to hear the extraordinary stories of people bucking the trend by fighting back against the hardships of life in credit crash Britain.

There is no doubt the economic downturn has caused substantial hardship for many, but some people, through their own initiative and hard work have offset its worst effects. Among the people he meets is the estate agent who lost his job and is now working as a DJ, the family seeking new work by moving abroad and the couple trying to raise cash by organising an internet competition with their house as a prize.
